Charles Blanc-Gatti (Lausanne, 1890–Riex, 1966) had been drawn to both music and the visual arts since childhood. He also possessed ‘chromatic and geometric synesthesia’: when he heard sounds, he visualised colours and shapes. An amateur violinist and self-taught painter, he received no formal academic training.
Blanc-Gatti offers a wide range of approaches to establishing connections between sounds and colours: pictorial transpositions, dynamic light installations and animated films. All his works aim to stimulate and enrich our sensory perceptions.
