This pretty Belle Époque kiosk now houses a café full of charm. There are a few tables inside and many more outside, at the foot of the church. Don’t leave without admiring the floor mosaic!
That little extra from the food insider "Cuisine Helvetica": do you see the famous clock? The Lausanne History Museum stored it for 14 years to prevent it from being damaged and put it back up when the café – refurbished in 2012 – reopened.
Favourite snack: the hazelnut tart

Lausanne's iconic cathedral has towered over the city for more than eight centuries. A masterpiece of Gothic art, it captivates visitors with the harmony of its architecture, the richness of its sculpted details and the serenity it inspires. From its tower, an exceptional panorama opens up over the roofs of the Cité, Lake Geneva and the Alps.

Due to the renovation of the vaults in the south transept, the rose and its stained glass windows will be inaccessible until spring 2027.

A historical place (we remember the time it was the TL’s ticket office and the meeting point for our first outings with our girlfriends in town as teenagers), transformed into a café with, as fine weather arrives, a huge terrace at Saint-François. The perfect spot for a coffee, a soup or a salad and quiche while watching passers-by.

This establishment has been awarded the “ Café historique de Lausanne ” label established by the city of Lausanne in 2021. In the heart of the square, the former Saint-François tramway kiosk dating from 1912 has found a new lease of life one hundred years later thanks to the opening of a charming establishment. The original carpentry has been skilfully highlighted. Outside, a bench hugs the structure’s rounded shape.
