In 2017, the Vieux-Lausanne got a facelift thanks to Gary Ahlgren, who gradually took over the family business. A real institution in Lausanne, it offers a bistronomic menu with 2-3 Nordic touches with recipes from Emma, the Swedish great-grandmother of the current owner.
This establishment has been awarded the “ Café historique de Lausanne ” label established by the city of Lausanne in 2021. Both a café and the home of the Helvetia student society, the “Vieux Lau” still resembles its 1920 and 1950 layout. The place’s interest is emphasised by the presence of furniture and objects linked to the student society that has been headquartered there for close to a century. The house, adjacent to the Escaliers du Marché, provides a landmark in the City Quarter.
